How to Become a Life Coach

The simplest answer to this important question is to complete the following steps:

1. Complete an accredited training programme in life coaching.

2. Complete How to Launch a Coaching Business and make money from it

Step 1.

There are a considerable number of life coach training-providers and one needs to choose carefully. Best way to do this is to explore their websites for information and the content of any courses offered.

Check for any student reviews posted on the website, and also – and more importantly - the reviews posted on independent sites such as Google my Business.

Look for a company that provides lots of hands-on training rather than one that is theory based. Also, do check the qualifications and experience of the trainers, here at Mindstream, we use trainers who are full-time professional coaches and have qualifications in delivering training courses.

Another point to consider is how long have they been in business. Here at Mindstream we are entering our twenty-first year of developing and delivering life coach training courses here and abroad, including training if the top management in two universities in Columbia.

Most courses are delivered over a period of six to eight months and the student needs to engage in lots of Pro Bono coaching sessions to build skill and experience. They are also expected to acquire the coachees for these practice sessions adding to the experience when they will be looking for paying-clients at some future time.

It is helpful to record these practise sessions and to get feedback from the Trainers with a view to building your skills. Permission will be needed from the Coachee to do so as to comply with GDPR regulations on privacy laws.

In addition to giving coaching sessions, it will be very helpful for the student to seek some coaching sessions from an established life coach. This will add to the students understanding of the coaching process from the point of view as a client.

When choosing your training provider, do ensure that their training include the skills you will need to become a life coach? What skills are required?

This is an important question and can be summarised as the following:

· Great listening skills

· Great questioning skills

· The ability to inspire and motivate clients to take certain actions with the intention of manifesting a particular goal or perhaps to resolve some issue.

· The ability to not jump in and offer suggestions or to feel they have to fix something.

· The ability to draw from the client those solutions which are appropriate for that client.

· Empathy and effective communication skills.

· The ability to give honest and straight feedback.

· An understanding of the psychology of coaching and why it is so effective.

Look for a trainer that takes an holistic approach to coaching, that is one that coaches the whole individual in mind, body and spirit. Spirituality is an important part of coaching and seeks to not only to empower the client to discover the greatness within, but also to impact positively on humanity. Again, this is part of the Mindstream course,

If you are lacking in any of these skills, the good news is that they can be developed through practise over the coaching training period and we at Mindstream include all of these aspects on our training course and much more.

Step 2. Marketing your business

Although some come onto our course for their own self-development the majority seek to create a full or part-time income as a life coach. On completion of the course, it will be essential to familiarise oneself with marketing skills to promote your business. This is an area which is mostly neglected by coaches after graduation and many fall away from the intended career-path for the want of fee-paying-clients.

Online marketing provides an opportunity to establish your business providing you put the time and effort into it. Posting on the various platforms can be free-of-charge, you just need to be creative, entertaining persistent and consistent.

Developing a Niche

As your coaching business develops you may find that your clients come from a particular niche or you may have already decided that in advance. This offers a great opportunity for the coach to direct the marketing towards this area and to become known as an “expert” . There are probably hundreds of different specialities available for coaches and this area has grown considerably in the last decade and continues to grow as people discover new areas of specialisation. The opportunities are enormous for the creative coach.

Summary of How To become a Life Coach

Find an established life coach training provider with good reviews

· Practice and develop your skills

· Market your business online.

Let go of your “expectations” and “wants“ and see what happens to your life and your coaching business.

Create lots of fun.

Seann Farrell

Pillars Of Holistic Personal Development

Holistic personal development can be a lifelong practice that helps you create more happiness and fulfillment in your life. Breaking down the different pillars of holistic personal development can help us further understand what truly makes up our well-being.

A good life coach will understand and help you develop each of these pillars. Let’s dive into why each pillar is important to the coaches we train at Mindstream.

The Physical
There is no shortage of evidence to suggest that our physical and mental health are deeply connected. Many people have found that, with the development of physical health, every other area of their life improves as well.

Many people find that developing their physical health is an easy way to start tapping into their intuition. By learning to listen to your body and its needs through nutrition and exercise, your other needs (the other pillars) become easier to recognize.

Improving our physical selves and optimizing our bodies is perhaps the most tangible way to see personal growth in our lives.

The Spiritual
There is an innate human need to be connected with a higher power. For some people this is God, the universe, or just a series of universal truths that serve as an anchor for this aspect of our humanity.

Developing this connection has been shown to correlate with other facets of health; be it physical, mental, or otherwise. Strong spiritual health has also been shown to reduce addictive or suicidal behaviors.

Spirituality differs widely between individuals, so there isn’t a concrete way to develop it. Many people find that their spirituality is strengthened through internal development (self-improvement exercises and introspection) and external development (like religion, study, or social relationships with others.)

The Mental
Mental health and development is, of course, an integral part of personal development. Oftentimes, this means cultivating self-awareness of one's own thought patterns and mental state.

Your mental state is perhaps one of the most difficult, but rewarding parts of personal development. Mindfulness is a popular term that encompasses the purposeful way our thoughts are handled. It involves an awareness of your thoughts, surroundings, and the intention behind your actions.

Optimizing your mental well-being is often most effective when done with a coach. As a prospective coach, you’ll want to develop a thorough understanding of how the mind works to help improve thought patterns for overall health.

The Emotional
Emotional health and development may sound self-explanatory, but is worth thoroughly diving into. Emotional development, often associated with emotional intelligence, is the ability to understand and regulate your own emotions while understanding the emotional state of others.

Being able to name and recognize your own emotions is an essential part of emotional personal development. Believe it or not, many adults still need to develop emotional intelligence skills such as honesty, treatment of anxiety, asking for help, defining personal values, or being proactive.

Emotional health is a part of holistic personal development because of the impact emotions can have on our overall well-being. In essence, emotions can drive every action we take, so it’s important to acknowledge their full weight in our personal development.

Potential life coaches should have an interest and understanding in each of the four pillars of holistic personal development. This practice takes into consideration that every aspect of ourselves plays a part in our development.

When every pillar is acknowledged and developed, it leads to more fulfillment and happiness in our lives.

You can request more information about training as a coach by reaching out here.

Sources

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/northern-advocate/news/the-benefits-of-physical-fitness-for-personal-development/

https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/

https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/fixing-families/201705/8-essential-emotional-skills-every-adult

The Benefits of Becoming a Life Coach.

The Benefits of Becoming a Life Coach

Life coach Certification

Online Life Coach Training.

We are entering a new era of reflection and contemplation brought on by the recent pandemic. People from all walks of life, are asking themselves “Is this it? Is this all I am?” These questions and many more are echoing in the halls and chambers of their minds. Many are realising that that the way things used to be, were not fulfilling, and a realisation that they are unhappy at the way things are currently panning out. Those Seeking a change in life direction, has grown exponentially – a bit like the pandemic itself – that change can be a major life-changing one such ah as re-training for a new career, questioning personal relationships to simply joining a gym to improve one’s feeling of wellbeing. Seeking personal growth and development are also a big part of the change. The world of life coaching has been at the forefront for several decades now at assisting clients achieving these goals.

You, or you may know people who are feeling a little bit lost, overwhelmed, they are seemingly wandering around not sure what to do. You will see this at the office or even at the bus stop. Now more than ever, people are looking for someone to help them develop new and exciting ways to fulfil their sense of purpose. Lifestyle changes are occurring all around the world, and a new awakening is in motion. We have come out of the pandemic, the lockdowns have all but ceased - it is a time of change. Life coaching has been the adjunct that many have used to deal with these powerful issues.

Life coaches are the enablers of purpose and change. They empower people to find their infinite possibilities. The gift of being able to walk part of the way with someone as they start their journey to new horizons is one of the most precious gifts you can receive

What makes a great coach? Do you feel empathy for others? Do you want people to succeed at manifesting life-goals, are you a great listener, capable of asking powerful questions? Can you empower and transform those around you? If the answer is “no” to any of the questions, don’t worry, these skills can be learned.

Choosing a training company can be likened to a journey through a maze with so many training providers advertising their services online. Probably the most important consideration is to choose one that has international accreditation. Next check the reviews, is the full name of the reviewer used or just the persons initials. If a course is good enough to comment on it, why would one not use their full name. I always suspect that sales companies invent them. And of course, the biggest influence on a training course is the skill of the trainers – check this on the provider’s website.

After considerable research I chose an accredited Life coach training courses that provided me the skills to deliver a professional coaching session, and during the journey, I experience considerable self-growth and personal development. Self-awareness and self-confidence were part of the curriculum. So it wasn’t just a course in coaching, it was an experience in growth.

Paul McManus, Bachelor's Degree in Chinese and International Business. Diploma Life Coaching from Mindstream Life Coach Training.
Life Coach Training Provider: Mindstream Life Coach Training,

Website https://mindstream.ie

Mindstream Contact details: info@mindstream.ie

Life Coaching Courses for Post-Lockdown Anxiety by Learning How to Say No.

Life Coaching Courses Online - Social Anxiety Post-Lockdown and Learning to Say No.

It’s a time to celebrate the reopening of our world to the new “normal”. Restaurants and nightclubs fully operational, staycations being planned, holidays getting booked, a staged-return to our offices and breathing life back into our cities. We are filled with the excitement of seeing friends, family and work colleagues again after our forced separation. But many people who have come to me for coaching over the past few weeks are experiencing a new kind of social anxiety….a fear of meeting up.

We have been so conditioned over the last 12 months to be distant, to not touch each other, avoid crowded places, conduct most of our business lives via a computer screen so suddenly the idea of abandoning these newly learned behaviours and fears is causing many people to be consumed with worry.

It’s not just a fear of catching a virus - as of course vaccinations are helping with that. But the idea of ‘life returning to normal’ forces us to change what has become our ‘new normal’.

While lockdown came with many challenges it also gave many people a chance to slow down and reset. It made us rethink our goals, adjust our plans and look at new, and sometimes better, ways of doing things.

Spending more quality time with family, getting back to nature, avoiding the daily commute, communicating more with our neighbours were just some of the ways we improved the quality of our lives. And so with the world returning to ‘normality’ many people are concerned about potentially losing this new sense of balance in their lives.

In a world where many peoples currency was ‘being busy’ the pandemic meant people could legitimately do nothing and not feel bad about it. People stopped rushing and a slower pace of life showed people that being idle came with many benefits. Now as social and work diaries start to fill up with restaurant bookings, weddings and face to face life coaching client meetings we need to ensure we don’t plunge in too deeply at the beginning by remember to use the power of saying no.

So how do we say no, without feeling like we are missing out.

1. Be clear on your priorities. Knowing what serves you best and helps you towards achieving your goals will help you to know when saying no is goal affirming and not something to be seen as a negative.

2. Know that saying no also means saying yes. You only have so much time to do all the things you want to do so saying no to one thing means you can say yes to something else.

3. Bide your time. Take your considering a request, don’t feel like you need to give your answer straight away. Consider all your options before getting back to someone.

5. Try ‘no’ for now. Letting a person know you want to do something but it’s just not the best time is a great way of saying no. Offer alternative dates at times that suit you best.

6. Ask for support. If your find your plate getting full, ask for help getting some things done more efficiently so you can free up more time for you. Make an Important, Urgent, Not Important, Not Urgent matrix to help you figure out what you need to do first and what can wait.

7. Just say no. This is often the simplest but hardest solution but an unapologetic and firm no to something can be so life affirming.

For more tips or if you are interested in coaching or partaking in any of our coaching courses please get in touch. www.mindstream.ie

Ariana Dunne is an accredited APC Life and Business Coach and a Senior Facilitator with Mindstream.

You always have choices. This process is constantly taking place, every minute of the day, and it is necessary to be aware of what you are thinking, choosing and deciding.
“This is who I am; I am this type of person; I am the kind of person who…”
Step 2 You trust your decision:
“Well, I must be that type of person…”
  Step 3 You take action:
Your actions are based on the decision you have made. Once you have decided, “this is the type of person I am”, for example, you begin acting like that person, for whatever you decide, you get. Remember: every action produces a result.
Step 4 You analyse the Feedback
We will look at this more closely in later articles.

The Four Steps to Conscious Living
The Decision:
There are only two types of decision to be made about oneself:
- Empowered decisions
- Dis-empowered decisions

Which one would you prefer? Which one do you want to live your life by?
The power of your decision is enormous: it is the decision made in the moment that determines who you are. The mechanics are simple; change results from the decision made in that moment – not from any kind of process. Begin to consciously participate in the creation and experience of your reality. Your world and your reality is already there, within you. There is no “outside”. There is no “external.” There is only you, and your experience of yourself.

There is nothing to “get rid of”, process, earn, gain or achieve: there is only decision. It is up to you, at any given moment in time, to decide what to be, and to express that decision through your actions. In each and every moment of your life, you are expressing some version of who you believe yourself to be.

You decide who you are. You create yourself 100%, right now. Now is the only time that is truly real. Your infinite consciousness is one eternal NOW. Re-create yourself according to who you want to be. By being mindful of the decision you are making, and by exploring who you prefer to be right now, you can completely transform your experience. You already create your experience through decision, trust and action automatically.

Just be conscious and definite about it.
For example: use powerful words to decide who you are. Make a list entitled “I Am My Ideal Self”. Now write your own definitions of what contributes to make you the “ideal” you – the person you really seek to be.
Make this statement: “I am“. Decide who you are right now. Who are you? State who you are in positive and absolute terms: there is no room for doubt! You then speak and act as a person who has made that decision.

Be fully committed to your decision; then act like someone who is that person, and, in time, being that person will become second-nature. Do the kind of things you would do if you completely accepted yourself as being that person. Tell yourself, “Now that I am this person, I find myself in these circumstances, what would this person do?

Trusting the Decision:
Trust or faith does not need to be gained or mustered up! You already have it. Simply be aware that you always trust in something and be more conscious and purposeful about what you choose to trust in.
Trust is something you already have. You are always placing it somewhere. Where do you place your trust? If you trust consistently, choosing who you want to be and then continuing to trust your decision you will create continuity and belief. “This is who I am!”
When you experience doubt about something, you are still using trust: you’re just choosing to use your trust in a negative way – to trust in the idea that things may go wrong. Perhaps you think that you cannot possibly be the person you seek to experience; perhaps you doubt your ability to change.

When you do this, you are trusting negatively – placing your trust in an old, dis-empowered decision.
**Doubt is a complete, 100% trust in the reality that you say you do not prefer. **
To trust is not to talk yourself into something. It is simply knowing that you are going to make a decision anyway, and allowing yourself to make your decision constantly.
Trusting a decision is simply maintenance of the decision “I am”. Sit or stand up straight, allow your body posture and attitude to exemplify the decision you have made.

Your Power
If You Are Committed To Your Decision…
Everything That You Require
To Allow Your Decision To Manifest…
Already Exists.
And There Is Your Power.
Many fail to either achieve or maintain their New Year resolutions simply because they never made the decision in the first place, or they didn’t commit to it, they usually decide to “try” something. Or, they make a different decision which contradicts another. This is an area called “indecision”, it always creates uncertainty and mixed-results. It is the biggest dis-empowering (and confusing) state-of-mind one can be in. However, once the decision is made, enormous power becomesavailable to you.

Trying

Trying has an inbuilt allowance that you might fail
It is not the doing of the thing but the trying of the doing
Trying may create a result but doing always creates a result
So- just do it.

Finally, look at 2016 and ask “what did you learn?” not so much on what you did or didn’t do. What did you learn about yourself?

This is about you – no one else. All good life coaching takes the client into a journey of self-empowerment and more importantly, self-awareness, an awareness of the brilliance within. Take the answer to that question and simply apply it to the issues you want addressed in and be open to experiencing amazing results.

Best wishes with your life journey
Seann Farrell AFC (accredited fellow coach)
